CPJ postpones delivering petition till Monday

This afternoon, the group that planned to deliver a petition supporting Saberi to Iranian United Nations officials will hold off until Monday.

Meredith Greene Megaw of the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists said they’d like to gather even more signatures before delivering the petition, which has received nearly 5,000 signatures as it’s circulated on Facebook.

The Committee to Protect Journalists plans to submit its petition electronically as well as hand-deliver it Monday because they don’t know if Iranian representatives will accept it when they deliver it, Megaw said.

The online petition calls for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to investigate Saberi’s case, ensure her access to an attorney and due process, make her charges public and release her immediately if no charges are filed.
